He is associate professor, head of department and director at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca and chair of the Max Weber Foundation for Social Research. He pursued studies at the Babes-Bolyai University and received his BA degree in Sociology with Hungarian specialization in 1996 and gained his MA degree in 1997. He received his dual PhD at the Doctoral School in Sociology,at the Eötvös Loránd University and Babes-Bolyai University in 2004. The topic of his dissertation was ‘National identity of Hungarians and Romanians in Transylvania in the context of social stratification’.
Subjects taught by Valér Veres include social structure, demography and human resource, youth sociology, applied methodology of social development and research.
His fields of research include national minority identity, social stratification, transformation of population structure and the cause of population decrease in Transylvania, youth research (youth consumption, future perspectives, maturity, social background and mobility). He has written over fourty studies, volumes and chapters on these topics. His major publications include The National Identity in Transylvania – a

Professional awards: HAS “János Arany Young Researcher Award” (2005), Ferenc Erdei Prize of the Hungarian Sociological Association (2007).
